24th APRIL. The Btn in the early morning moved to the old gun positions between Wancourt and the Harp.
At night they returned to the Citadelle in Arras.|
235279 Pte Hutchinson Willie. Home at - 1 Northdale Rd, Frizinghall, Bradford, Yorks,
place of enlistment. Killed in action. Age 29. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial
235295 Pte Morton Charles. Home at 6 Cardigan Cres, Kirkstall Rd, Leeds, Yorks town of birth
and enlistment. Killed in action. Age 37. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial

200119 Cpl Pattinson William, Frederick. Born at Birkby, Yorks and enlisted at
Northallerton, N Yorks. Died of wounds. Age 24. Buried at Bucquoy Rd Cemetery, Ficheux.
William F Pattinson and was the only son of the late Frederick and Elizabeth Pattison.
He lived in Oxendale & Barkers Yard, just off the High Street in Northallerton.
Before the War he had been employed by Mr. M. Eden in his Fruit & Vegetable Shop in Northallerton.
He sailed to France with 4th Yorkshires in April 1915, was wounded and gassed during the 2nd Battle of Ypres in May
He spent some time recovering in hospital in Rouen.
He was wounded a second time, by shrapnel, during the Battalion's attack on Martinpuich, on the Somme, on 15th September
This resulted in a six week stay in hospital, before being sent back to the Battalion as a Lance Corporal.
He was later promoted again to Corporal and was wounded a third time, aged 24, during the Battle of Arras on 23rd April
1917 in the fateful attack near Wancourt. Sadly this brave man's wounds were too severe and he died the following day.

202259 Pte Stanton Alfred. Born and enlisted at Northampton. Died of wounds.

235203 Pte Birch Jim. Home at - 19 Beckside, Beverley, Yorks, town of enlistment.
Killed in action. Age 35. Commmemorated on the Arras Memorial.
202397 Pte Dawson Percy Hockley. Home at 53 Richmond St, Middlesbrough. Died of wounds age 19.
Buried at Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery, Saulty
203134 Pte Etherington Henry. Born and enlisted at Gateshead, Co Durham. Died
Buried at Douai Communal Cemetery.
They received a picture like this one.
It was only some years after the War that the Commonwealth War Graves Commission created the
beautiful Cemeteries around the World.

26th APRIL. The Btn moved by train to Mondicourt [a village about 27k South West of Arras.] Then marched to
Famechon, about 4k South, arriving at 2 a.m next day. Here they stayed until 1st May.
The following 3 men died of wounds and are buried at Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery, Saulty.
202248 Pte Laughton Harry, Conyers, Home at 6 Thrift St, Irchester, Northants, place
of birth and enlistment. Age 20.
235178 Pte Marsh Peter. Home at - 378 Wigan Rd, Atherton, Manchester.
201154 Pte Smith George. Home at Kensington London. Enlisted at Middlesbrough.
28th APRIL. A small draft of 40 men reached the Btn from the 3rd line at Catterick.
The following 3 men died of wounds and are buried at St Sever [Hospital] Cemetery Extension, Rouen.
201413 L/Sgt Sharp Thomas. On the 28th, Home at Grangetown Middlesbrough, N Yorks, place of enlistment.
32728 Pte West William. Home at Stockton on Tees, Co Durham. Thornaby N Yorks

235156 Pte Blundell Henry. Home at - Great Crosby, Lancs, place of birth.
Enlisted at Seaforth. On the 30th.
30th APRIL. The Diary records the effective strength of the Btn as 28 Officers and 873 other ranks at the
start of April and 19 Officers and 611 other ranks at the end.
